La Canardière is a converted Provençal farmhouse set in an elevated, peaceful position with glorious views over its own extensive grounds and the valley beyond as far as the Maures mountains and the coast.
Sensitively modernised, the house retains all its traditional charm while being light, spacious and comfortable. Terraces surround two sides of the houses and are well shaded, with plenty of space for lounging and dining, while steps lead down to the (heated) swimming pool set on its own terrace with a shaded outdoor bar area.
The house sleeps 8 to 10 and there is a self-contained 'cabanon' in the grounds near the main house and pool which sleeps a further 2 people.
In the house, on the ground floor, you will find a living room with a fireplace, a kitchen, and a dining area. The dining area and the kitchen have French doors leading to the covered terrace. The kitchen is fully equipped. Also on the ground floor, there is 1 bedroom with a double bed (a good comfortable sofa bed). Next to it is a bathroom with a sink, shower cabin, and toilet. On the first floor, you will find the other 3 bedrooms. Each of the three bedrooms has two single beds (0.90 by 2.00) that can be pushed together to form a double bed. There are also two bathrooms on the first floor. WIFI is available.
The annex, the guesthouse, is located about 40 meters from the house. This accommodation is simply furnished but a lovely spot for two people. Here you will find two single beds (which can also be used as a double bed), a sink with running water, and a toilet. Additionally, there is an outdoor shower: at the back of the guesthouse, there is a shower with folding doors, allowing you to enjoy a shower (with hot water) in the open air!
Available for children: a camping cot, a baby cot, a high chair, a swing, a table tennis table, family games, and playing cards. Airconditioning in all the bedrooms.
The grounds extend to around two hectares, and are traditionally landscaped and terraced, with cypress trees and olives, almonds, fig, cherry and other fruit trees, fragrant lavender and grape vines.
This place, much-loved by the owners, has everything you need for a lovely, relaxing holiday with family or friends. But if you should wish to go exploring, the charming countryside and villages of the Var are all around you, there are frequent local Provencal markets nearby, or the beach is a fun day trip. The village of St Antonin-du-Var, with its own shop, bakery and restaurant is just a couple of kilometres away and the nearest market town is 10 minutes by car.
Surrounding
St Antonin-du-Var is a quiet village with its own wine co-operative, a small hotel/restaurant/bar, boules pitches, tennis courts (which can be booked), a bakery and a thriving mini-market where you can buy all the necessary provisions. The nearest market town, only about 10 minutes drive away, is Lorgues where you will find the larger supermarkets, plenty of cafes and restaurants as well as the extensive weekly market on Tuesdays.
Nearest beaches
It will take about one hour to drive to the coast from St Antonin. Sainte Maxime is the easiest resort to get to but from there St Tropez and Port Grimaud are easily accessible and going in the other direction along the coast you will find Frejus and
St Raphael. If you take the slightly slower but very picturesque route across the Massif des Maures via La Garde-Freinet you will find the delightful small bay of Le Rayol as well as the larger resorts of Le Lavandou and Cavalaire-sur-Mer.
Around and about
Inland and worth visiting are the lovely villages of Entrecasteaux, Tourtour, Salernes (famous for its ceramics), Cotignac and Draguinan. Each of these towns and villages has its own local market day once a week and a range of good restaurants. Many of them have their own wine cooperatives and you will also find some excellent local wine producers where you can go and buy your wine directly from the ‘domaine’. A bit further afield and you can visit the ‘ Grand Canyon ’ of the South of France, the Gorges du Verdon with its sparkling blue lake. Here you can hire canoes, pedaloes and sailing boats and make excursions into the dramatic scenery of the Gorges.
Airports
Nice, Toulon and Marseilles Airports are all about a one hour drive away.
