It springs from the Col llos in the massif of the Trois Evêchés. It flows into the Durance at Vinon-sur-Verdon. Between Castellane and the bridge of Le Galetas, the river runs through a deep gorge, the Gorges du Verdon. The Gorges du Verdon is the largest canyon in Europe and the second largest in the world and is also called the Grand Canyon du Verdon, after the Grand Canyon in the United States. This nature park is a very popular area for nature lovers. Many mountaineers also come to this gorge to test themselves on some of the steep walls of the gorge.
