Varages is a small, typical Provençal village with around 100 inhabitants. It is known for its pottery factory (also a shop) and a pottery museum. There is a bakery, a butcher, a grocery store, and a pharmacy. The village also has two cafés, a pizzeria, and the simple yet delicious restaurant "La Provence." In the village, there is a tennis court that can be rented.

It is a 15-minute drive to the charming town center of Barjols. In this town, you’ll find, in addition to bakeries, butchers, and a supermarket, several lovely restaurants and terraces. Barjols is a town with a rich history and is known for its 42 fountains and 4 rivers. The architecture of Barjols has been shaped by all this water for centuries. Barjols is about 55 km from Aix-en-Provence and 30 km from the Gorges du Verdon and Lac de Sainte Croix. The Mediterranean Sea is about an hour's drive away.

Nearby are the beautiful mountain ranges of Sainte Baume and Sainte Victoire. The highlights of Provence and the French Riviera—Saint-Tropez, Cassis, or the Luberon—are all easily accessible for day trips. The famous Gorges du Verdon (which offers beautiful hiking and climbing routes for outdoor enthusiasts) and the beautiful Lac de Sainte Croix are about a 45-minute drive from the house. At the lake, you can enjoy water sports such as surfing, sailing, catamaran sailing, canoeing, and pedal boating. There are also small, charming beaches.

This is an ideal holiday destination with great dining options, beautiful golf courses (Golf de Barbaroux and Golf de Sainte Baume), and hiking trails.

Additionally, there are delightful markets in the nearby towns of Aups, Villecroze, Salernes, and Cotignac.
